What happens next

If that address has an account, a link to choose a new password is sent to it. The link works once and expires in 30 minutes.

If several accounts share the address, the link lists them and asks which one to reset — one account per link.

Asking for another link stops the previous one working.

This is the account's confirmed email address — the one that was verified when the account was created. If the address was never confirmed, there is no reset route and the site footer reaches a person.
